Art therapy-led wellbeing groups for children and young people aged 8–15 offering a supportive space to explore feelings, develop confidence and connect with others through creativity.
Growing up can bring emotional and social challenges. Children and young people may experience worries, difficulties with friendships, low confidence or feelings that are difficult to understand or express.
Creative Confidence & Wellbeing offers early, targeted emotional wellbeing support through small, structured groups that combine creative exploration with supportive relationships.
No artistic experience or ability is needed.
Each programme consists of six 75-minute sessions, with a maximum of eight participants per group.
Drawing on the principles of art psychotherapy, sessions offer opportunities to explore thoughts, feelings and experiences through art-making and shared creative activities.
The emphasis is on the creative process rather than artistic skill or finished artwork. Children and young people are encouraged to participate at their own pace, without pressure to explain their work or share personal experiences.
Across the six sessions, children and young people will have opportunities to explore:
Themes and activities will be adapted to each age group and the needs of participants.
The programme may be helpful for children and young people experiencing:
Two separate age groups are offered.
Ages 8-11
A creative group for primary-school-aged children, exploring feelings, friendships and everyday challenges in an age-appropriate way.
Ages 12-15
A group for young people navigating adolescence, offering space for self-expression, reflection and connection with peers.
Groups are led by Dr Patricia Watts, an HCPC-registered Art Psychotherapist, and co-facilitated by a creative support practitioner.
Patricia oversees the therapeutic planning and delivery of the programme, while the creative support practitioner provides additional creative and practical support.
Together, they ensure that attention is given to both individual participants and the wider group experience.
The programme is designed for children and young people who may benefit from early support with emotional and social difficulties, confidence and relationships.
The groups can also provide a gentle introduction to therapeutic work or a supportive step down from individual art psychotherapy, helping children build on their progress through creative group experiences.
Although art therapy-led, the groups are not a replacement for individual therapy or specialist mental health support where needed.
Before offering a place, Patricia will arrange a brief conversation with parents or carers to consider their child's needs and suitability for the group.
