Individual art therapy is offered to support children and young people with a range of concerns that impact their well-being such as anxiety, loss, bereavement and trauma.
The therapeutic approach is collaborative and flexible with the child or young person being the expert in their lived experience. Goals are identified to support the child, young person and parents/carers to think about how art therapy can support change.
Sessions are typically 1 hour and offered in 6 session blocks depending on the needs of the child or young person, and therapeutic goals are reviewed on a regular basis. An assessment can be undertaken as part of the therapy to assist other professionals with identifying the child or young person's needs.
Group art therapy is offered to support children and young people who have similar issues where it will benefit them to gain support from peers with a shared experience. Group work is structured with the children and young people contributing to the focus and development of sessions.
The type of group offered is flexible and dependant on the needs of the children and young people and can be offered as a regular drop in group, or one off workshops, or time specific groups ranging from 6 to 12 session blocks.
Individual and group art therapy can be arranged by parents and carers, or organisations already involved with children, young people and their families, and can take place in locations convenient to the children and young people.
Individual and group sessions are confidential, however if there are concerns for the safety or well-being of a child, young person or adult, even if they are unknown to the therapist, confidentiality may have to be broken and information shared with relevant individuals and/or/ professionals to ensure safety.
Both individual and group art therapy sessions can be delivered face-to-face or online.
